Using Humap

Understanding types of user accounts

Subscription admin user

A subscription admin user can only be created by the Humap team. Typically only one or two people within an institution can be an admin of the subscription platform. Subscription admins can create new projects, select the features used within a project, and create and administer (admin or contributor) user accounts for each project.

Project admin user

A Humap project admin user can be created by subscription admins. A project admin can access their project’s admin area to create and manage content across the whole project. Currently, they cannot administer user accounts for the project. Project admin users can access the project’s admin area by adding /admin to the end of their project URL.

Contributor user

A contributor user can be created by subscription admins. A contributor user can access the Contribute system interface in the Humap platform to create and manage their own content only.

Contribute user sign ups

A contribute user can sign up to the project of their own accord if the Contribute and Allow sign ups features are enabled by the subscription admin (for a specific project). This will present a sign up link in the project for anyone to sign up.

Limiting contribute user sign ups with SSO

If it is not desirable for just anyone to sign up as a contribute user, SSO (Single Sign On) can be turned on per project to limit sign ups to users that have an account on your own authentication system.
