By contributing to a Humap, you’re helping preserve and share stories that matter – from local histories to global movements. To keep our platform inclusive, respectful, and safe, we ask all contributors to follow these core principles:
1. Share respectfully
We’re committed to an inclusive space. Please avoid any content that:
- Promotes hate, harassment, or discrimination
- Aims to incite violence or targets marginalised groups
- Violates the dignity or rights of others
- Contains sexually explicit or violently graphic material
2. Be accurate and trustworthy
We welcome diverse perspectives – but not disinformation. Please don’t upload content that:
- Spreads false or misleading claims (e.g. climate denial, vaccine misinformation)
- Intentionally attempts to cause harm or confusion
3. Protect personal privacy
- Don’t share identifiable personal data (such as names, contact details and current home addresses) without clear permission
- Please take extra care when mapping or referencing living individuals
4. Respect copyright and attribution
- Only upload content you own or are licensed to use
- If it’s not yours, make sure it’s Creative Commons or similarly reusable – and credit the original source where required. Learn more about copyright.
- Don’t upload media (photos, audio, video) unless you have permission or the rights to share it
5. Community and platform standards
- We may edit, hide, or remove content that breaches this agreement
- Users who seriously or repeatedly violate these terms may have their accounts suspended or removed
- We preserve submitted content as part of a long-term digital archive in line with our mission
6. Licensing
Unless otherwise stated, all content you contribute is shared under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
This means others can share and adapt your content – even commercially – as long as they credit you. Learn more about copyright.
If you prefer a different Creative Commons licence (e.g. non-commercial use only), please state that clearly when you submit your work.
7. Help us keep this space safe
This platform is a place for ethical, inclusive storytelling, civic engagement, and education. By contributing, you help ensure it stays open, sustainable, and welcoming to all.
