Image sizes for Humap

Humap handles formatting, sizing, and compression of all images to maintain fast delivery, without affecting quality. Generally speaking, you should upload a high resolution version of any image and let Humap do the rest.

General limits

Lower limit

There isn’t one! Obviously smaller images will start to look shoddy, but they will be resized up to fit spaces appropriately in the Humap platform.

Upper limit

Images cannot exceed more than 100,000,000 pixels, which is about 12200 x 8160 for an image with a 3:2 aspect ratio.

Map: Soft recommendations

At least 1600 pixels wide (any smaller won’t look super-sharp as the main hero image of a record on a double density screen), and less than 4000 wide (you’re just wasting bandwidth/processing power above that, images won’t appear any different on normal screens).

Pagemaker: Soft recommendations

Pagemaker images will often be subject to some cropping by the layout, which changes size and aspect ratio to work on different sized screens and devices. In terms of the subject of the image: a subject which is central or near central will always work, or subjects without a primary focus point, like landscapes.

For hero images that span the full width

At least 1500px wide (or 3000px wide if you want to support double density monitors).

For images that span half the page

At least 750px wide (or 1500px wide if you want to support double density monitors).

For images that span a quarter of the page

At least 300px wide (or 600px wide if you want to support double density monitors).

Any larger than 4000px wide is unneccessary (you’re just wasting bandwidth/processing power above that, images won’t appear any different on normal screens).
